It was exciting to be heading to Cape Town for our Garden Route tour with a totally new group of riders from Saudi Arabia!
The Harley's were waiting for us and we collected them on Friday afternoon.
Saturday morning dawned windy and cloudy but it wasn't a problem. Cape Point was exciting in the howling wind and we had to do everything in our power to hold onto the bikes as we parked for the photo at Cape Point.
Our next stop, Franschoek, had disappeared into the clouds. Add a bit of rain and the Franschhoek Pass turned into quite a challenge which was thoroughly enjoyed by Ahmed, Nizar, Hassan, Sultan, Amro and Basem. Coming from Saudi, they absolutely loved the rain and the harsh weather conditions as they had never experienced anything like it!
From the Nuy Valley our next day took us to Oudtshoorn and a beautiful ride out to our lodge at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains. The riding in this area is always spectacular and the scenery never disappoints. We then headed to the coast along more beautiful twisty roads.
A highlight of this trip was definitely our stay at a Private Game Reserve outside Mossel Bay.The game viewing was spectacular as always.
The longest day of the trip is down to Agulhas but fortunately the scenery varies as the kilometres roll by - from lush forest to the rolling green hills of wheat and finally the beautiful, wild and windy southernmost tip of Africa, Agulhas, the place of needles.
We then had a little bit of roadside maintenance necessary on one of the bikes as the drive belt had come off. With a little bit of bush mechanics and an awful lot of bad language the repair was made to at least get us to the gorgeous Marine Hotel in Hermanus.
The last days’ riding into Cape Town along Clarence drive to Gordons Bay and then the whole coastal route, including Chapmans Peak was absolutely sublime! After a week of fairly cloudy weather, the Cape turned on its full charm and the colour of the ocean was exquisite. Sometimes pictures cannot do the beauty any justice and we are fortunate that those memories are entrenched in our memory bank forever.
