The Garden Route Tour is by far a firm favourite for us. The roads are in perfect condition, and the scenery never disappoints!
Our group was from the UK – 14 friends who regularly travel together - and this was their first foray to South Africa. We had 5 bikes with pillions, 1 single rider and 3 people in the support vehicle, fondly called The Nut Bus. What a trip we had!
The Nut Bus carried all the luggage, it’s 3 regular passengers, Shots, Annie and Ronnie, as well as some of the ladies when bottoms were tired or it became just too hot on the back of the bike. We had a couple of days of 38-41 degrees Celsius!
We collected everyone at the Airport and transferred them to the hotel at the V& A Waterfront. For the next two days sightseeing was the order of the day with trips to Table Mountain, Robben Island and Camps Bay.
Then the trip started in earnest with some spectacular riding through Baines Kloof Pass, Du Toits Kloof pass to our first night at a working vineyard. Next day was through the Karoo along the R62 with obligatory stops at Diesel and Crème and Ronnie’s Sex Shop. Our lodge at the foot of the gorgeous Swartberg Mountains was like riding into a piece of paradise.

More scenic riding the next day took us to the coast, taking in the beautiful scenery of Knysna and surrounds. The group did some Ziplining in Tsitsikamma before our next quaint hotel stay.
Then we were off to our Safari Lodge and what an experience that was. All the riders managed the 3km dirt road into the lodge with ease. We had 2 days’ stay here and all I can say is that everyone was blown away by the beautiful lodge and the fantastic animal sightings!

We then started heading south to two nights right on the beach. Agulhas, the southernmost tip of the African continent was visited and then onto Hermanus. The roads all along the route were absolutely stunning, in fantastic condition and any bike riders’ dream! Gentle sweeping curves, some tight corners and absolute bliss for any rider.
After Hermanus we headed back to Cape Town but first stopped along the way to greet the penguins!
Our last day of riding was around the Atlantic seaboard and boy, this day did not disappoint! Baboons along the road at Millers Point, Ostriches and Eland at Cape of Good Hope and just gorgeous sea colours all the way along Chapmans Peak Drive – the most iconic ride in South Africa -into Hout Bay and eventually back to Cape Town and the hotel.
The last day was spent on a Wine Tour to Paarl, Franschoek and Stellenbosch which was enjoyed by everyone!
