3 Country tour
We just finished a three country, 5000 km ride with Darrell and Gillie and had the trip of a lifetime. Darrell is a great guide – he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the countryside, the roads, and the sights. If you ask, he will give you his opinion on everything from routes to food to side-excursions to see game or the sights, but he makes it very clear that the decision was ultimately ours to make. I was impressed with how hard Darrell and Gillie worked throughout the trip to make sure that things ran smoothly for the tour. They were up and ready to go early every morning and were busy making sure that the bikes and breakfast were ready so that we could get on the road promptly, and at the end of the day they were equally busy making sure that the evenings’ food and accommodations were on track. The logistics went off without a hitch, and the trip was fabulous. After three weeks on the road, we were ready to get home but were sad to part with Darrell and Gillie. We will be riding with them soon.
3 Country tour
A friend and I engaged with GS Adventures for a four-week, 5000 km trip through western South Africa, up the Namibia coast, across the Caprivi Strip to Kasane and Victoria Falls, and down into Botswana to Gaborone. We were impressed with the level of communication and attention to detail as we worked with Darrell to plan our trip. As relatively inexperienced off-road riders, we relied heavily on guidance from GS Adventures to design a trip that would challenge us but not put us in way over our heads. We received a personalized experience and not a "canned," inflexible tour. The trip was an incredible lifetime experience from start to finish. Choices of lodges and campsites (we did a mix) were excellent, and the support and guidance from GS Adventures were consistently strong. We also rented our motorcycles directly from GS Adventures. The BMW 1200 GS bikes were in terrific condition and performed flawlessly day after dusty day. We came home full of memories, and we hope to work with GS Adventures again.
Windhoek to Cape Town
I recently had the pleasure of joining GS Adventures for what turned out to be, bar none, the most enjoyable motorcycle journey I’ve ever embarked upon. The personable, attentive, ethical and joyous approach that comes so naturally from the GS Adventures team is of more value than any other component that contributes to a successful and truly memorable tour. It was refreshing to be around people who funnel their passion into a professional pursuit while simultaneously having equal and genuine interest to grow with and include clients into their ever-expanding circle of friends from all over the globe. The trip from Windhoek, through Namibia and down to Cape Town was not only an eye opening and humbling experience but, on the back end, flawlessly executed by the team demonstrating the subtle but important refinements garnered from well over a decade of experience operating in Africa. This was my first ‘off the beaten track’ riding experience and thanks to the efforts of Darrell and Dylan, who we had the pleasure of having by our side for this adventure, it will assuredly not be my last. Wishing GS Adventures happy riding till next time and looking forward to meeting the rest of the team in the near future.
Darrell planned an excellent 4-day tour for me that included a day in Kruger Park (they wouldn't let me take the GS in though). We traveled on dirt, twisty mountain roads, and wide open multi-lane. Darrell arranged for lodging that suited my tastes perfectly. I couldn't have asked for a better guide and riding companion. A big thank-you to Michelle and Dylan as well - they met us on the way to Tambo so that I could change clothes and re-pack before catching my flight home. I'd love to do a longer trip with these folks. Thank you all for a truly memorable experience!
Namibia - Botswana
Just finished the Namibia-Botswana tours. To put it simple Darrell and his team are the best in the business!
Namibia (Windhoek to Windhoek)
Michael, Raymond, Pieter and Anton
Thank you for an "awesome trip" with memories that we will never forget. The whole trip was very professional and so well planned, and we enjoyed every moment of it incredibly - There were certain anxious moments on the GS’s, through thick sand, that we would rather forget but everyone came out in one piece on the other side.
You made us feel very much at home and it certainly felt like a bunch of "friends" rather than a tour leader with a "backup" vehicle and 4 friends!!
Thank you for the motorcycle riding advice given throughout - it made a clear difference and we can probably shake off the beginner classification and be considered "intermediate" dirt road riders - or how should I say men…..
Thank you Pieter (for the initiative and planning, you always have everyone's interests at heart, etc...), Michael (for all the jokes and good laughs... and how can we forget the "shopping" experience with you through Swakopmund's shops! !) and Raymond (for the communication and entertainment through the thick sand...always a pleasure) - you are a special bunch of pals and I hope there are many more TRIPS ahead with you!!
Hear hear Anton! I couldn't agree more with you, a very special experience with friends for life and as I said before Darrell and Michelle thank you very much for your guidance and friendship, I can assure you without you we would definitely have ended up on the "beach" a few times …😊
Thank you all.
And then we must not forget the motivational speech from Darrell at Swakopmund when we were debating about riding or not. When Darrell pointedly said to us 'you don't want to ride motorbikes today?' and suggested a bus to Sossusvlei, we were here to ride bikes not travel in a bus so the gravel suddenly looked very attractive...
Thanks also to Michelle and specifically for not revealing all my secrets - I read them between the lines in your letter 😁
Had the best ever trip with you guys - miss those days in the pouring rain, going through pounding river beds... amazing countryside, perfect company and such exciting memories..
