Best of South Africa - Johannesburg to Cape Town

BEST OF SOUTH AFRICA-JOHANNESBURG TO CAPE TOWN

Experinece the best of South Africa from Johannesburg to Cape Town from the saddle of your Motorcycle.
This is a pillion friendly route and is suitable for road bikes, tourers and dual purpose bikes.

This trip is easily adapted to your specific interests! 

Upon arrival in Johannesburg you will be based in The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. This unique area is rich in Palaeoentological history. There are various day trips available to explore Johannesburg, the City of Gold.
You will also take delivery of your rental bike.
You now travel to the world famous Kruger National Park where you will experience a Half day Safari in search of the Big 5 (Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Rhino and Buffalo). En-route to Kruger you will descend the Escarpment and ride on some of South Africa's best biking roads. |
You then travel through Kwa Zulu Natal province and head to Durban, holiday mecca of the warm Indian Ocean. You have a full day to explore this city.
After this rest day you head inland over the uKhahlamba, the Barrier of Spears or better known Drakensberg Mountains. You will travel through the Eastern Free State province which is mainly an agricultural area as well as the Eastern Cape province as you head to the scenic Garden Route.
From the beautiful Garden Route you travel to the Karoo - a dry, arid area with a stark beauty of its own. Here you have a day to explore Ostrich Show farms, the world famous Cango Caves, a Cheetah Sanctuary or ride some truly spectacular mountain passes. You then ride the iconic Route 62 as you head further south and eventually end at the southernmost tip of Africa where two oceans meet.

We now start heading to Cape Town along biking roads made in heaven with breathtaking scenery around every bend! A visit to Cape Point, Chapmans Peak and Hout Bay are all en-route before you end the trip at the V & A Waterfront in Cape Town. You still have a full day to complete your To Do List which must include a visit to Table Mountain, maybe Robben Island and a Winelands        

Day 1
Welcome to South Africa and specifically Egoli, city of Gold.
Depending on your arrival time, we may take delivery of the bikes today; otherwise details will be completed tomorrow morning before departure.

Day 2
Soweto tour, Apartheid museum and Gold Reef City Tour.

Day 3
Today we leave Johannesburg and head east towards Mpumalanga.
We travel along scenic roads towards our lodge near the world famous Kruger National Park.

The scenery and riding is spectacular.

Day 4:
Today you will be on safari in the Kruger National Park.
Keep  a look out for the Big 5!

Day 5:
We leave Mpumalanga today and head south.
We travel through varying scenery from thick Bushveld to open Grasslands.
We spend tonight in a small town in northern Kwa Zulu Natal.

Day 6:
Today we carry on traveling through the heart of Kwa Zulu Natal to our ocean destination of Durban.

Day 7:
Today is a rest day. Various activities and tours in and around Durban are available.
Enjoy the warm Indian Ocean.

Day 8:
Today we'll be traveling through the exotic Drakensberg Region.
The Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa or uKhahlamba (the Barrier of Spears) are a 200-kilometre-long mountainous wonderland and World Heritage Site. The largest proportion of the South African component of this area falls in the kingdom of KwaZulu-Natal.
We travel via the stunning Oliviershoek Pass, past the Sterkfontein Dam which boasts one of the biggest earth dam walls.
Tonight we stay in a quaint village in the Eastern Free State.

Day 9:
We continue traveling through the Free State, skirting the might Maluti mountains of Lesotho.
We head through the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

Day 10:
Our journey south continues.
We travel through rural villages, along beautifully scenic roads, through one of the most historic towns in the Eastern Cape, Grahamstown.
Finally we are traveling along the coast again to our peaceful hotel in the famous Garden Route.

Day 11:
After a hearty breakfast we start on the next leg of our journey.
Today is a truly scenic ride along South Africa's beautiful Garden Route. 

We head inland over the stunning Outeniqua Pass, to the outskirts of the Karoo where we will be based for 2 nights.

Day 12:
Today is up to you!
Visit the world famous Cango caves, an Ostrich show farm, a game farm, cheetah sanctuary or ride an awesome gravel road, Swartberg Pass.

Day 13:
The ride today is along the iconic Route 62.
The scenery is varied and the road a treat.
We have a wine tasting organized for this afternoon.

Day 14
We head south again today and ride through the heart of the South African Race Horse breeding area.
The countryside then changes to rolling hills of wheat as we enter the Overberg area.
Our destination is Agulhas, the southernmost point in South Africa. Have your picture taken where the Indian and Atlantic Ocean meet!

Day 15: 
We start heading for Cape Town but we take the truly scenic route.
We head along the Western Cape Coast, along some dramatically situated roads with breathtaking views of the sea and mountains. We visit Cape Point and then continue into Cape Town to our hotel at the V&A Waterfront.

Day 16
Today is at leisure with either various options e.g.: visiting Table Mountain, Robben Island, Shark Cage diving or more scenic riding in and around the winelands.
